So, I recently checked out 百樂 Bai Le Seafood over at Hougang Ave 4, and you know what? It’s a mixed bag, to say the least. Tucked inside a casual setting, it’s one of those hawker stalls you might end up at after a late-night craving. But let’s just say, the vibe feels a bit… off at times.
One thing that struck me was their homemade 虾米辣 (Hea Bee Hiam). Sounds fancy, right? Well, I ordered it, but I gotta say, the price left me a bit shook. $18.60 for a medium-sized dish of stir-fried veggies? Ouch! I didn’t even notice much of the Hea Bee Hiam swimming around in there.
On the plus side, if you’re like me and prefer meals without shelling prawns yourself, their cereal prawns are de-shelled. Nice touch for the lazy eater! Plus, the space is brightly lit—makes your food look a tad more appetizing.
But here’s a heads-up: if you’re in a hurry, you might want to think again. The service is painfully slow, especially if there’s a big crowd. So if you’re just popping by for a quick bite, be ready for a wait.
